Presented by the British Columbia Building Envelope Council (BCBEC) and the Homeowner Protection Office (HPO), a branch of BC Housing.
This half-day workshop focused on energy efficiency in new and retrofit buildings. Industry leaders provided insights into key issues, including insulation strategies, high performance walls and energy-efficiency code requirements. The workshop also examined some of the challenges and options being explored in multi-unit residential and institutional buildings.

BCBEC is proud to present the Tom Morstead Memorial Award to BCIT Building Science Graduate student Shahrzad Pedram at the Scholarships and Awards Ceremony held on November 14, 2012. Shahrzad, a student in the Master of Applied Science in Building Science program, received the award for her high academic standing, leadership, service and best all-round performance in building science.
BCBEC supports educational programs which provide learning opportunities for students in the field of building science.

First place in the competition went to “Thermal Breaks Reduce Heat Loss Through Externally Insulated Walls” (Michael L’Arrivee, Joshua Wiebe, Benjamin Plasche). Second place to “Thermal Bridging in Concrete Floor Slabs” (Nataliya Matiushkova). Third place to “The Energy Efficiency of Single Family Homes” (Trevor Vilac, Brandon Carreira, Logan Brown).
