CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

A written paper will be required for all presentations and the conference will present two tracks. The two tracks will focus on Principles (Devoted to Research and Development) and Practices (Focus on Practical Applications and Case Studies).

Papers should focus on the development of high impact technologies and processes to be life cycle cost effective, and reduce energy use and environmental consequences. Papers should demonstrate how their topics, on the thermal and moisture performance of the exterior envelope of whole buildings, will lead to high performance buildings. Papers on case studies need to be unique and new. Papers in the Practices Track should provide technologies ready for implementation; those in the Principles Track shall show the promise of short to mid-term adoption.

    ZEBx’s Fall 2018 calendar

    ZEBx’s Fall 2018 calendar

Earlier this summer, the Zero Emissions Building Exchange (ZEBx) launched in Vancouver as a collaborative platform and a catalyst for market transformation in buildings. Its mission is to accelerate the implementation of attractive, cost-effective and exemplary zero emission buildings at scale.

ZEBx connects industry to solutions, increases capacity and drives economic growth in “clean” buildings. The organization leverages its extensive network and partnerships to offer opportunities for knowledge exchange, research, and training through a neutral, coordinated lens, from single family homes to high rise residential, institutional and commercial buildings.

ZEBx’s Fall 2018 calendar was recently launched and includes industry events and AIBC accredited courses. Some of which include:
    • HVAC in Large Passive House Buildings
    • Passive House Building Certification Course
    • Advanced PHPP Course
    • High Density Passive House Building Seminar
    • BCIT’s popular Zero Energy Building training
    • PHPP Users Vancouver Group

Passive House Canada presents upcoming fall training schedule for BC

In April 2017 the BC Government announced the BC Energy Step Code, a key step in meeting the objectives set out in the BC Climate Leadership Plan. And in August 2017 the Federal Government released Build Smart – Canada’s Building Strategy, providing a pathway for Canada to build drastically better buildings.

These policy initiatives and programs aim to make high-performance energy-efficient buildings the norm by 2030, and they identify the international Passive House Standard as one way to achieve that target. Becoming a certified Passive House professional will position you for future building expectations and help you lead the way in the building industry.

Whether you’re a designer, architect, planner, builder, policy maker or curious homeowner, they have a course to suit your desired skills and knowledge-level. Their courses run throughout the year in cities across Canada.

Passive House Canada course conductors are industry professionals immersed day to day in Canadian Passive House building projects, and all are accredited by the Passive House Institute in Germany.

They have trained thousands of students around North America, and lead the field nationally through continually updating and revising their course material to reflect the advancement of the Passive House Standard in Canada and internationally.

2018 HALF-DAY WORKSHOP WEBINAR ON BUILDING SMART WITH HIGH PERFORMANCE CONCRETE ENVELOPES AVAILABLE ONLINE

2018 HALF-DAY WORKSHOP WEBINAR ON BUILDING SMART WITH HIGH PERFORMANCE CONCRETE ENVELOPES AVAILABLE ONLINE

Presented by the British Columbia Building Envelope Council (BCBEC) and BC Housing

This half-day workshop focused on concrete envelopes for Part 9 and Part 3 construction.  Energy and thermal requirements play an increasingly important role in residential construction. Industry experts discussed the latest research on how concrete envelopes can help deliver results as well as some of the most effective ways to meet the new BC Energy Step Code standards. Topics for discussion included precast concrete, sandwich concrete walls, insulating concrete forms, and cast-in-place concrete. The workshop program provided practical examples to illustrate thermal bridging considerations and to identify compliance paths for meeting the thermal performance requirements.

Welcome to the New BCBEC Website

BCBEC is pleased to announce its newly renovated website! When BCBEC was preparing to host the 15th Canadian Building Science and Technology conference (CCBST), the board of directors agreed that our website needed a facelift. Our objective for the new website was to give the website a more modern appearance, while simplifying navigation to the up-to-date content and resources that our viewership was looking for. The updated site is more user friendly to assist us in achieving our goal of sharing knowledge related to the building science industry.

In addition to the information presented on our website, BCBEC organizes monthly luncheons which have been very well attended. We have recently started organizing half-day workshops in collaboration with BC Housing which are typically held in February. We have also been organizing events with AIBC and EGBC (previously APEGBC). In Spring of 2015, we launched our own magazine titled BCBEC Elements. The Building Research Committee (BRC) is an active committee of BCBEC that meets twice a year with a mandate to facilitate research into building envelope problems experienced in the coastal climate of British Columbia.

We hope you find our new site easy to navigate and resourceful. Please feel free to drop in your feedback or comments.
