About the Presenter: John Rose, Manager – Lightweight Insulating Concrete, Siplast
John Rose is the Manager for Siplast Lightweight Insulating Concrete Roof Insulation Systems. His career spans over 30 years in the roofing and the fire protection industry. Prior to joining Siplast in 1995, he worked for W. R. Grace involved with roofing, waterproofing and fire protection products in marketing and technical field services. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Penn State University. John is a member of the American Concrete Institutes Technical Committee 523 on Low Density Concretes and ASTM Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates. He is on the board of directors of the National Roof Deck Contractors Association and a member of the Ontario Canadian Building Envelope Council.
About the Topic:
Roof Membrane Substrates: Their Impact on Roof Membrane Performance and Building Envelope Technology
A discussion on roof insulation in sustainable building envelope design and the role lightweight insulating concretes systems contribute to that concept. The specific topics of energy efficiency, sustainability and environmental responsibility will be discussed. Also included in the presentation:
- Engineering design properties such as composite construction, acoustics, fire resistant construction, wind uplift and thermal properties for roof membrane substrates.
- The history of LWIC.
- Different types of roof insulation and component characteristics.
- Mass effect of insulations and LWIC.
- American Concrete Institute guidelines for LWIC.
- Sustainability of roof insulation systems and performance characteristics.
- Structural lightweight concrete issues in roofing applications.
