About the Presenter:

Bruce Haden is a principal at Dialog, an integrated design firm with architecture, urban design, engineering and sustainable design capability. The firm has studios in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Toronto.

His architectural and urban design work has been recognized globally, particularly for the Governor General’s and World Architecture Festival winning design of the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre in Osoyoos, BC. His design work ranges widely from wastewater treatment plants to cafes.

Currently he is working on renovating a historic post office building in northern BC into a community arts centre, the competition-winning design of the Canadian Navy Monument in Ottawa and the new LEED Platinum targeted Student Union Building at the University of British Columbia.

About the Topic:

The focus of the presentation is on passive design, with a secondary emphasis on IEQ and Materiality topics covered in the Passive Design section include: Building Orientation, Space Planning, Facade Design, Thermal Mass, Air Infiltration and Natural Ventilation IEQ touches on LEED, Health and Safety, and Economics Materiality touches on LEED requirements for local sourcing, and Life Cycle Analysis.
