Event Highlights

Canada’s building sector is entering a decisive decade marked by accelerating climate targets, evolving energy and emissions codes, and growing expectation from investors, occupants, and regulators. Practitioners are increasingly being asked not only to design and deliver compliant projects, but to help building owners plan and implement credible, long-term transition pathways toward low-carbon, high-performance buildings. Transition Planning Now offers a four-hour, in-person, practitioner-focused workshop delivered by RDH Building Science on behalf of the Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC). The workshop leverages CAGBC’s new Carbon Transition Planning Guide to help industry practitioners understand how to plan and implement effective transition plans that support the highest tiers of the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) and other regional high-performance building codes, regulations, and programs that drive emissions reductions.

Learning Objectives

Market Drivers and Risks: Evaluate the influence of evolving market drivers and risk factors alongside jurisdictional requirements (such as NECB and building performance standards) on project strategy and long-term asset value.
Guide Application: Work through the Carbon Transition Planning Guide’s four-stage process—preparation, plan development, implementation, and post-retrofit optimization using technical exercises and real-world scenarios.
Stakeholder Engagement: Practice methods for engaging owners and project teams, surfacing priorities, and integrating diverse needs into project planning.
Project Integration: Explore strategies for integrating climate adaptation and resilience measures into transition plans, aligned with capital renewal cycles, funding opportunities, and certification pathways.
Case Studies and Peer Exchange: Examine examples from a range of building types and ownership models and discuss practical solutions with peers.
