On behalf of the British Columbia Building Envelope Council (BCBEC), welcome to our website.
I am honoured and privileged to move into the role as BCBEC President. I’ve enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors since 2015, promoting the exchange of information amongst our industry peers and supporting the education of those new to the industry.
BCBEC is a non-profit organization, which started in 1990 and arose out of the Leaky Condo Crisis as a platform to educate, engage, and improve the building envelope industry. The original focus was primarily on moisture management, but our scope has broadened over the years to include improved durability, occupant comfort, energy usage, resiliency, and minimizing embodied energy. Now, as technology, construction practices, and the global climate are continuing to change, industry designers, manufacturers, and regulatory authorities are responding to these new opportunities and challenges.
With a membership comprised of design professionals, manufacturers, contractors, educators, associations, members of government, and regulatory bodies, BCBEC provides a platform to promote the pursuit of excellence in building science. Our events include monthly luncheons, half-day seminars, and our annual AGM & Conference.
Our 2023 AGM & Conference “Back to Basics and Beyond,” held in November at the JW Marriott Parq in Vancouver was a great success and was well attended by our members.
BCBEC’s magazine, Elements, provides current and relevant information for our industry. Our Building Research Committee (BRC) meets twice a year with the mandate to facilitate research into building envelope problems experienced in the coastal climate of British Columbia.
As a non-profit organization, our Education Foundation creates a legacy for the education and training of those pursuing a career in our industry. The Foundation continues to provide a positive and permanent opportunity for tomorrow’s leaders.
BCBEC would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our Board of Directors, industry partners such as BC Housing, and the continued support of our membership and volunteers.
For 2024, I wish you all the best as we look forward to a great year ahead. Please feel free to leave your feedback and comments.
