About the Presenter:
Leon Plett, MIStructE, Struct.Eng, B.Eng, P.Eng, LEED AP, Read Jones Christoffersen Ltd.

Leon Plett is a Designated Structural Engineer and Project Engineer in the Read Jones Christoffersen Ltd. Victoria office. A graduate of Lakehead University, Leon joined RJC as a Design Engineer in 2005. He has worked on a variety of challenging projects, including traditional concrete and wood frame structures, as well as seismic upgrades of heritage buildings. RJC has been significantly involved in the development of the APEGBC Technical & Practice Bulletin for the design of five and six storey wood frame buildings, and authored the Stage 1 and Stage 2 reports for the Building and Safety Policy Branch of the Ministry of Housing which formed the basis of the BC Building Code changes to permit 5 and 6 storey wood frame buildings . RJC are the designers for several five and six storey wood frame buildings in the Victoria market.

About the presentation:

Recent regulatory changes allow for the construction of six-storey wood frame buildings. Our current economy requires a constant refinement of engineered designs to maximize structural efficiency while minimizing cost of construction. While there are many benefits to designing and constructing these types of structures, there also challenges which affect more than the structural and seismic requirements. The presentation will not only cover these considerations, but also the affected concerns of architects, engineers, interior designers and builders.
