With a strong background in strategic operations and quality assurance systems, Rob oversees the MPDA’s industry initiatives, including paint inspection services, contractor certification, and standards advocacy. He is passionate about helping industry professionals improve outcomes through practical knowledge and effective collaboration.
Mark Swiderski, Lead Inspector
MPDA Specification Services Inc.
Mark is a Certified MPI Architectural Coatings Inspector (#00204) with over 25 years of experience in commercial and institutional painting. He holds multiple industry certifications including ACT, ACS, MCS, PQA, and MCACI. Mark specializes in paint quality assurance and architectural coatings inspection, providing technical leadership and expert guidance to contractors and consultants across British Columbia.

Paint Failures & Fixes: Best Practices for Durable Coating Systems
The presentation will explore the root causes of common exterior paint failures and provide actionable guidance on surface preparation, application techniques, and troubleshooting methods. Drawing on MPI standards and real-world examples from MPDA’s inspection work, this presentation will help consultants, contractors, and suppliers deliver more reliable paint performance on both new and repaint projects.
By the end of the session, attendees will be able to:
• Identify common exterior paint failures and their causes, including poor adhesion and premature degradation.
• Understand best practices in substrate preparation and environmental control to minimize paint deficiencies.
• Understand some basic methods for troubleshooting coating issues effectively using MPI standards.
