About the Topic:
Considerations for the Conservation of Heritage Masonry and Wood Windows
As British Columbia’s stock of heritage buildings continues to age and the focus shifts from demolition to conservation, the design of an appropriate conservation program is becoming increasingly important. By examining two heritage conservation case studies, this presentation will explore the different stages and influencing factors in developing an appropriate conservation strategy for heritage building envelope components. Topics for discussion include identification, assessment, and failure mechanisms of heritage building envelope elements, as well as maintenance of heritage building materials for conservation projects. Specifically, the presentation will focus on considerations for the conservation of heritage masonry and wood windows.
