About the Presenter

Andreu Ferrero
GCP Applied Technologies

Andreu Ferrero is the North American Technical Manager for DE NEEF at GCP Applied Technologies, a Saint-Gobain company. He is a licensed civil engineer in multiple U.S. states, serves on the International Grouting Committee with the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI), and is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Throughout his career, Ferrero has worked on numerous large-scale deep foundation and infrastructure repair projects across North America and regularly provides grouting consultation services to many of the region’s largest contractors. Early in his career, he worked on drilling rigs conducting geotechnical, mineral, and water exploration before pursuing his education in his mid-twenties. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering, focusing on structural and geotechnical engineering, from Portland State University in Oregon.

About the Topic
Chemical Grouting Solutions for Below-Grade Structures and Deep Foundations

DE NEEF chemical grouts provide a comprehensive range of injection solutions to stop leaks and stabilize soils in challenging below-grade environments. These systems are widely used in deep foundations, underground structures, and infrastructure projects where difficult ground conditions—such as poor soils, high groundwater tables, flowing water, and voids within the strata exist.

This session will focus on curtain wall grouting for below-grade parkades and permeation grouting for shoring applications. DE NEEF chemical grout systems can form both horizontal and vertical barriers to groundwater movement, helping to:
1. Create curtain wall waterproofing barriers to replace failed systems and stop active leaks through cracks and poorly consolidated shotcrete walls in underground parkades
2. Create curtain wall waterproofing barriers behind shoring systems
3. Improve soil cohesion and overall ground stability
4. Reduce permeability and groundwater flow within the strata
5. Support excavation activities while minimizing off-site settlement

These methods help achieve drier excavation conditions, improve construction productivity and predictability, and remediate active leaks in below-grade structures. A live demonstration (If time permits) will illustrate how different chemical grouts behave in practice.
