SUMMARY:BC Housing presents Building Smart with Seismic Requirements for Part 9 Buildings
DESCRIPTION:Why do wood-frame buildings stand up in earthquakes? What makes some fall? How do the Part 9 prescriptive provisions for lateral load resistance help ensure that your building will resist the next seismic event? These questions and many more will be answered in this three-hour webinar led by a team of experts. \nLearn about BC Building Code’s (BCBC) 9.23.13 lateral provisions in detail; from braced wall bands\, braced wall panels\, anchorage to nailing provisions. Background information on the provisions will be described in depth. Get a glimpse of the upcoming WoodWorks® software that’s designed to show how to comply with BCBC 9.23.13. \nThis event is held in collaboration with the Building and Safety Standards Branch\, Canadian Wood Council\, BOABC\, CHBA BC\, AIBC\, ASTTBC and new home warranty providers. \nPresenters\nJim Baker\, Building and Safety Standards Branch is a Building Technologist with over 30 years of industry experience in construction\, engineering\, architecture\, and building regulations. Jim has spent the last five years as a Senior Building Codes Administrator with the Building and Safety Standards Branch of the Province of British Columbia. \nMurray Frank\, Constructive Home Solutions Inc. is recognized as a premier building science specialist in British Columbia. He has been instrumental in developing an understanding of moisture problems\, energy performance and sustainability features related to single family and multi-unit residential buildings. His expertise can also be applied to building envelope concerns related to commercial\, industrial and institutional projects. Murray is an acclaimed educator in his field and has played a key role in the development and delivery of leading-edge curriculum for the construction industry. \nRobert Jonkman\, Canadian Wood Council (CWC) is the Director of Codes and Standards. Concentrating on structural engineering\, building science\, and energy issues\, Robert is responsible for CWC’s Publication and Software business centre. Robert plays an active role in the development of Codes and Standards with the Canadian Home Builders Association\, including the National Building Code Standing Committee on Structural Design (Part 4)\, and the National Building Code Standing Committee on Housing and Small Buildings (Part 9). \nDr. Ghasan Doudak\, Ph.D\, P.Eng. University of Ottawa\, is an Associate Professor of structural engineering. His area of expertise includes multi-scale understanding of how complete structural systems function\, encompassing issues like how complete buildings respond to effects of wind storms\, ground shaking during earthquakes\, or other actions like impacts and blasts. Dr. Doudak’s research\, through collaboration with Canadian as well as international researchers\, is in establishing solutions to meet specific performance requirements for mid-rise wood and hybrid buildings. \nMore Information and Registration\nThis event will be available online (webinar) as well as in person. \nFor More Information and Registration please visit BC Housing Website \n \n
