SUMMARY:Victoria Luncheon: The High Performance Wall
DESCRIPTION:About the Presenter: Gord Cooke\, P.Eng.\, Building Knowledge Canada Inc. \nGord Cooke is a Professional Engineer with over 25 years experience in the residential building industry. He is an effective and passionate educator and advocate for implementing better building practices and products. He has developed and delivered numerous technical and sales training courses across Canada and the US. He combines aspects of advanced building science\, indoor air quality\, mechanical systems and energy efficient building programs\, to assist builders and contractors in promoting the technological improvements of new houses. \nAbout the Topic: The High Performance Wall (commercial and multi-unit residential buildings) \nThis luncheon will outline the ever increasing challenges presented by changes to building codes and energy programs\, material and design choices and consumer expectations in creating high performance buildings. Specifically this workshop will focus on the science behind making walls be more durable\, safer and more energy efficient without compromising cost effectiveness and build-ability. This information presented will empower attendees to implement new technologies\, materials and processes into their building practices. \nLearning Highlights: \n\nIdentify the increased importance of key air and weather barrier details to maintain long-term durability in the face of increasing energy efficiency requirements\nUnderstand the total thermal effectiveness of wall systems and why this is important in meeting new code and green program requirements\nProvide an overview of wall systems alternatives and their overall impact on air\, heat and moisture flow\nIdentify construction detail options for the installation of different insulation strategies in traditional framed wall systems\, such as exterior insulated sheathing
