SUMMARY:Victoria Luncheon: Building Monitoring
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Jason Teetaert\, P.Eng.\nSMT Research Ltd. \nAbout the Presenter: \nJason Teetaert \, P.Eng\, is the VP of Business Development at Structure Monitoring with 15 years of project management and electrical engineering construction design experience and currently working with the application of structure monitoring systems. He holds patents in the areas of moisture detection\, and patents pending in roof monitoring and low powered hybrid wireless/wired networks. Jason has used his construction-related electrical engineering experience\, gained working in a national engineering firm\, to lead the building science community in the design of moisture detection systems in residential\, educational\, and institutional projects related to sustainable buildings and investigations. \nJason graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BASc\, in Electrical Engineering and is the current President of BCBEC and the Chair of BCBEC’s AGM and Conference Planning Committees. Jason resides in Vancouver but considers the world his home\, having lived in Winnipeg\, Whitehorse\, Arusha\, Nairobi\, Chicago\, and Miami. \nAbout the Topic: \nStructural Monitoring Technology facilitates sustainable building practice by informing building consultants and owners of issues that could become long term areas of concern. Leading edge building monitoring technology is used in the investigation of building performance and is capable of monitoring moisture content\, condensation\, dew point\, thermo profiling\, vapour pressure\, differential air pressure and building component movement. Structure Monitoring Technology applications will be outlined in the context of installation during various stages of the building life cycle including: \n\n\nNew construction\,\nExisting buildings\, and\nRe-commissioning or major renovations.\n\n\nThe initial commissioning and verification of design details is key for design professionals. In addition\, building owners/operators are interested in mitigating risks from floods\, aging roofing systems and costs associated with the clean-up of water damage. This presentation will demonstrate the various sensors\, monitoring systems and scanning methods that can be used for verification and reporting purposes. Real life practical applications\, installation details\, site conditions\, and monitoring results will also be showcased.
