SUMMARY:Vancouver Luncheon: NAFS and the 2012 BCBC - the New Omnibus Fenestration Standard
DESCRIPTION:About the Presenter: Al Jaugelis\, RDH Building Engineering Ltd. \nAl Jaugelis is a Fenestration Specialist with RDH Building Engineering Ltd. and the Technical Consultant for the Fenestration Association of BC. He played a key role in initiating the “Review of Window Energy Rating Procedures for Canada” research project and is the lead on a new guide\, “Best Practices for Window and Door Replacement – Wood-Frame Buildings”. \nAbout the topic: \nThe 2012 BCBC references a new standard for fenestration performance and it “changes everything”\, introducing new concepts\, new terminology\, and giving architects and specifiers the ability to specify performance and quality attributes with greater precision than ever before. \nFor the first time the performance requirements for these listed fenestration products are covered by a single standards document: AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440-08\, NAFS North American Fenestration Standard/Specification for windows\, doors and skylights . And unlike the venerable CSA A440-00\, this standard specifically addresses “commercial” windows and doors used in Part 3 mid and high-rise buildings. \nKnown in the industry as NAFS\, and called the Harmonized Standard in the Code\, this document represents a significant departure from the standards we have worked with in the past. This workshop will introduce architects\, engineers\, specification writers\, and commercial glazing contractors to the standard\, and explore some ways it will affect the selection\, rating\, and performance verification of fenestration products from now on. \nTopics covered: \n\nNAFS and earlier standards\nNew concepts in NAFS\nProducts covered under NAFS\nUnderstanding Performance Class\nSelecting Performance Grades\nPerformance validation\nSpecifying products with NAFS\nPart 9 buildings\, Part 3 buildings\, and NAFS\n\n  \nSeminar Presentation: \n\n\n\nNAFS AND THE 2012 BC BUILDING CODE\nAl Jaugelis\nRDH Building Engineering Ltd.\nMarch & April 2013
