DESCRIPTION:About the Presenter:  Peter Moonen\, Canadian Wood Council \nPeter Moonen is a third generation British Columbian who\, like many in the province\, has his roots in the forest sector. A technical communications specialist\, he has spent the last 23 years in the forest industry\, dealing with internal and external communications pertaining to regulatory\, environmental\, sustainability\, economic\, production and operational issues. \nHe is Coordinator of Sustainability and Special Projects for WoodWORKS!\, a program developed by the Canadian Wood Council to build a strong wood culture in Canada through education\, training and awareness. He regularly presents on achieving greater sustainability and the appropriate use of wood in Asia\, Europe and throughout North America to design professionals\, educators and building officials. He also works to support various industry associations\, export marketing groups and government departments as well as working with visiting delegations. \nHe is also participated as an organizer and session facilitator at the UN Timber Committee and is a reviewer specializing in wood and the green economy for the Forest Products Annual Market Review published by the UN Timber and Forestry section. \nBetween 2002 and 2008\, he was also Vice-President of Thinwood Forestry Limited\, a manufacturer of unique\, high-quality Canadian custom-sawn veneers for the structural\, millwork\, furniture and flooring sectors. \nHe was the founding president of the B.C. Wood Co-op\, an organization of more than 600 small and medium woodworking businesses producing a variety of value added wood products. He is also currently a Director of Sechelt Community Projects Inc.\, the community forest in Sechelt\, B.C. \nHe was Co-chair of the Howe Sound Round Table\, formed in 1991 to address social\, environmental and economic issues in the Howe Sound Corridor between Vancouver and Whistler. He has also worked extensively with local\, regional and provincial government bodies to develop economic solutions for resource-dependent communities in British Columbia. \nIn addition to a degree in Marine Biology and Zoology\, he studied forestry at UBC and Journalism and Public Affairs in Alberta.
