SUMMARY:Vancouver Luncheon: Hazardous Materials in Buildings
DESCRIPTION:About the Presenter: Geoffrey A. Clark\, MSc\, CIH\, ROH – WorkSafe BC \nGeoff Clark is a Senior Occupational Hygienist at WorkSafe BC.  He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)\, a Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) and holds a Masters degree from the University of British Columbia.  Geoff has conducted thousands of assessments in many areas of occupational hygiene\, including asbestos\, lead and silica exposure\, confined spaces\, mould and bacteria contamination and indoor air quality. He is a chief author of the “Safe Work Practices for Handling Asbestos” book and the “Lead-Containing Paints and Coatings” book. His main focus\, at present\, is to help prevent workers from contracting occupational diseases. \nAbout the Topic:  Hazardous Materials in Buildings \nConstruction and renovation workers come across many hazards during their everyday work. Some of these\, including asbestos\, lead\, silica and mould can cause occupational diseases which may result in permanent injury or death. During the course of this session we will look at some of the hazardous materials typically found in buildings and the responsibilities that building owners\, consultants and contractors have to deal with them. For example\, how are hazardous materials sampled and identified? Who is qualified to prepare survey and clearance reports? What must contractors do to protect their workers during the removal of these materials? Remember\, there are Occupational Health and Safety Regulations that must be followed when dealing with these hazards and new Regulations will come into effect in 2017. \nSeminar Presentation: \n\n\n\nHAZARDOUS MATERIALS IN BUILDINGINGS\nGeoffrey A.
