SUMMARY:Vancouver Luncheon: The City of Vancouver’s Near Zero Emissions Building Plan and What It Means For The Building Envelope
DESCRIPTION:About the Presenters: \nChristian Cianfrone\, M.A.Sc.\, P.Eng.\, LEED AP BD+C\nMorrison Hershfield\, Principal and Building Energy Practice Lead  \nChristian is one of Canada’s industry leaders in building energy efficiency and energy simulation\, having worked on hundreds of projects across North America.  Christian sits on the CaGBC’s Energy Technical Advisory Group and is currently the chair for the equivalent USGBC committee.  Christian has provided energy policy advice to some of Canada’s largest cities\, including Vancouver\, Calgary and Toronto\, and was part the Near Zero Emissions Plan consultant team.  Christian has also been instrumental in developing and delivering professional education on current industry topics relating to energy efficiency\, simulation\, codes\, and ventilation. \nSean Pander\, M.Sc\, P.Eng\nCity of Vancouver Green Building Program Manager \nSean is a professional engineer with a background in urban planning.  He was the senior energy and climate planner for the City of Vancouver between 2003 and 2009 during which time he established and led the team that developed and implemented Vancouver’s Climate Protection Action Plan\, its Green Building Strategy\, as well as overseeing the early development of its district energy strategy.  In 2010\, he oversaw the development of the city’s Greenest City 2020 Action Plan. \nSean currently leads the City of Vancouver’s Green Building Team tasked with developing strategies\, programs\, policies and regulations to a) ensure all new buildings in Vancouver use only 100% renewable energy by 2030 and b) that all existing buildings decrease energy use and emissions by 20% by 2020. \nAbout the Topic:   \nIn July\, city staff will submit a report recommending adoption of the Near Zero Emissions (NZE) New Building Plan. This will guide changes to the Green Rezoning Policies and Vancouver Building Bylaw which establishes mandates for greenhouse gas and energy performance of new construction. The City of Vancouver will present the proposed time-stepped greenhouse gas and energy use limits for new buildings in Vancouver\, including the role of incentives\, tools for building industry capacity\, and the plan for implementation.  As the NZE Plan focuses on improvements to the building envelope\, examples of solutions will be presented\, as well as identified gaps that the industry will need to fill to meet the future 2030 targets. \nSeminar Presentations: \n\n\n\nTHE CITY OF VANCOUVER’S NEAR ZERO EMISSIONS BUILDINGPLAN AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR THE BUILDING ENVELOPE\nChristian Cianfrone\nMorrison Hershfield   \nSean Pander\nCity of Vancouver \n\nJune 2016\n\n\n\n\n
