SUMMARY:New Products in Building Envelope Evolution (Testing and Certification of Building Products)
DESCRIPTION:The building enclosure is always evolving in response to the home owner’s requirements and a number of those requirements are linked to Building Code(s) compliance. The speakers will present an overview of the Intertek testing facility\, and provide examples of tests\, marks and services of tested products. The presentation will also shed some light on the differences between testing and certification\, and the steps involved in each\, and the need to have an accredited laboratory approve various products. \nJesse Cook and Cameron Dodd are managers with Intertek \, who both focus primarily on the Building Products sector. Mr. Cook has extensive experience in both construction and firefighting with a BCIT education. He started his career as a laboratory Fire Technician to enhance his skills as a Firefighter. This opened the doors for numerous opportunities with Intertek’s testing facility. He is now one of the foremost experts in Building Product-related testing and certification. Some of the associations that Jesse is a member of: Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA)\, Structurally Insulated Panel Association (SIPA)\, Insulated Concrete Form Manufacturers Association (ICFA)\, Cold Formed Steel Engineering Institute (CFSEI)\, and more. He is an expert in identifying an efficient way for client(s) to achieve Certification\, and has strong ties within the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) and International Code Council (ICC ES) should the client require a Code Evaluation Approval. Mr. Dodd has an extensive background in construction\, engineering technology and sales\, with a BCIT Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology and a Bachelors Degree of Business Administration. His experience includes civil design and project management with the City of Vancouver and the BC Ministry of Transportation. He is a member of ASTTBC and Expanded Polystyrene Manufacturers Association (EPSMA).
