DESCRIPTION:With new amendments to the Strata Property Act in British Columbia (Bill 8 – 2009) coming into effect soon\, there seems to be a lack of understanding regarding the legal structure and property allocation of strata corporations. \nThis presentation will discuss items that are routinely relevant and required for reserve fund studies. These are as follows: \n\n\nProperty allocation and legal structure of strata corporations\nNew amendment to the Strata Property Act in British Columbia\nObligations triggered by the new requirements\n\n\nPatrick A. Williams is a partner of Clark Wilson LLP and Chair of the Strata Property Group. Patrick is also a member of the Alternate Dispute Resolution Practice Group. Patrick’s practice focuses on assisting strata corporations\, developers and strata lot owners with dispute resolution. He is an experienced and qualified arbitrator and mediator and has managed numerous strata property\, real estate and construction disputes. Patrick has published articles on issues impacting the strata property industry\, including construction related problems experienced by owners\, property managers and developers. He received his dispute resolution training through the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia and the British Columbia Arbitration and Mediation Institute. Patrick obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1973 and a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1974\, from The University of British Columbia.
