SUMMARY:Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia Present THE ROLE OF BUILDING ENCLOSURE IN AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO DEEP RETROFITS
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will provide an overview of the role of building enclosure within an integrated process for delivering energy and emissions reductions in existing Part 3 buildings. The webinar will present an overarching approach to deep retrofits that encourages practitioners to consider all of a building’s systems\, needs and priorities in a holistic way. It will introduce and present linkages between the holistic approach and the impending Engineers and Geoscientists BC Practice Advisory on Climate Change Considerations for Building Enclosure Engineers. Supporting case studies will demonstrate the holistic approach in action\, and will illustrate specific building enclosure technical solutions. Following the presentations\, participants will be invited to engage with the presenters through a facilitated panel discussion. \nThis webinar is part of a seminar series offered in partnership with BC Hydro and in support of actions under Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Climate Change Action Plan. This series is aimed at enabling knowledge sharing between attendees and building sector professionals with first-hand experience in deep energy building retrofits\, with a goal of removing barriers and increasing the confidence and capacity of architects and engineers to take on existing building energy and emissions retrofit projects. The first and second events in this series provided an introduction to deep retrofits and an overview of heat pump technology assessments in deep retrofits. \n  \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES \n\n\nHow to approach deep retrofits from a whole building perspective;\nLinkages to the Practice Advisory on Climate Change Considerations for Building Enclosure Engineers;\nThe critical role that building enclosure plays in meeting increasingly stringent energy and emissions requirements;\nTechnical implications of deep enclosure retrofits in relation to the Code considerations\, occupant comfort\, energy performance\, and resiliency;\nIdentifying and communicating the value proposition to include enclosure retrofits as a part of deep retrofits; and\,\nCase studies of completed projects\, lessons learned\, including analysis of most impactful solutions/approaches.\n\n  \nTARGET AUDIENCE \n\n\nRegistrants working in the buildings sector looking to get engaged in deep retrofit work (e.g.\, design/consulting engineers\, architects\, sales engineers);\nOrganizations providing or procuring services in developing building retrofit strategies (e.g.\, building operators\, portfolio managers\, energy managers\, corporate ESG managers\, etc.); and\nEngineers\, architects\, technologists\, geoscientists working in the field of climate change\, or those wishing to learn more about deep retrofits as a potential opportunity for climate action.\n\n  \nABOUT THE PRESENTERS:\nWARREN KNOWLES\, P.ENG.\nPRINCIPAL\, RDH BUILDING SCIENCE INC. \nWarren joined RDH when it was founded in 1997 and continues to play a key role in the evolution of the company. He has led projects that have gained industry recognition\, including the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia Sustainability Award. His influence on the industry has also previously included roles as the President of the BC Building Envelope Council and Director of the National Building Envelope Council. He is currently the Chair of the Building Enclosure Advisory Group for Engineers and Geoscientists BC and a member of the Resilience Guidelines on Health Facility Design & Operations Task Force. \n  \nIAIN MACFADYEN\nPRINCIPAL\, ZGF ARCHITECTS INC. \nPassionate about the wellness of people\, our planet\, and our resources\, Iain realized early in life that he wanted to make a difference.
