DESCRIPTION:What are the costs to build a 7-12 storey multi-family building with mass timber in BC? How will these buildings meet BC Energy Step Code requirements? \nJoin us online for the answers to these questions with six industry specialists. Speakers will share highlights from their recent B.C. study on the economics of building with mass timber. \nPart two of this webinar series focuses on energy modeling and cost analysis. It explains the methodology for mass timber estimating as well as a practical demonstration of the new online Mass timber + Energy Parametric Costing Tool from the Province of BC. \nEarly mass timber digital design development helps solve performance\, cost\, and schedule predictability. This provides comprehensive data for decision-making that is critical for estimating performance-based design and constructability as a system that is appropriate for off-site manufacturing. \nAttend this webinar to learn design and construction techniques that can help you achieve high performance building targets while lowering overall costs. Attendees will also discover detailed energy and thermal component modelling to ensure BC Energy Step Code compliance. \nThis second session will be of special interest to architects\, designers\, manufacturers\, cost estimators\, construction managers and energy advisors. \nThis event is being held in collaboration with NRCan\, CMHC\, Forestry Innovation Investment and the Province of BC’s Office of Mass Timber Implementation. \nSpeakers\nJohn Wall\, Architect AIBC\, Principal Architect\, Public\, Architecture & Communication \nJohn has 25 years of experience in architecture\, with a focus on large-scale residential projects. He is the Architectural Lead on the $70M SFU Residences and the recently completed King Edward Residences in Vancouver. John is chair of the City of Vancouver Urban Design Panel and a regular guest critic at the UBC School of Architecture. \n  \nKen King\, Manager\, Hanscomb Quantity Surveyors \nKen has successfully delivered quantity surveying\, project management\, and development management services to public-private partnership transportation and building projects. \nKen has recently been involved in the New Vision Park Mass Timber Social Housing project in North Bay\, ON and the Encapsulated Mass Timber Study with the National Research Council of Canada. \n  \nEric Wood\, Façade Specialist/Mass Timber Practice Lead\, Morrison Hershfield Façade Engineering Group \nA mass timber technical subject matter expert\, Eric has spent the past several years overseeing the commercialization of mass timber and unitized building components for commercial\, residential\, and multi-family construction. \nEric has worked on several complex prefabricated mass timber projects including UBC Brock Commons and New Vision Park Mass Timber Social Housing project in North Bay\, Ontario. \n  \nIvan Lee\, Component Modelling Team Lead\, Morrison Hershfield \nIvan has experience evaluating thermal bridging and condensation risks in building assemblies to establish effective thermal performance of the building envelope for manufacturer products and systems\, new construction\, and low energy retrofit projects. \nAs a LEED Accredited Professional\, Ivan also has experience in sustainable building design. \n  \nHenning White\, Senior Code Consultant\, Morrison Hershfield \nHenning has over 15 years of experience in Building and Fire Code consulting including the design optimization with the Fire Code provisions in B.C. and constructability of Encapsulated Mass Timber Construction. \nHenning has experience developing alternative solutions to technical challenges in mass timber projects.. These include considerations for concealed spaces and flame spread ratings of exposed surfaces. \n  \nKalum Galle\, Principal Project Manager & Sustainability Practice Lead\, Morrison Hershfield \nWith over 15 years’ experience in sustainable development\, Kalum has experience in building rating systems\, energy audits/retrofits\, climate resiliency and risk assessment\, and construction management.
