Presented by the British Columbia Building Envelope Council (BCBEC) and BC Housing

This half-day workshop focuses on the thermal and moisture performance of highly insulated wall assemblies for new and retrofit buildings. Industry experts discuss the latest research with practical solutions for building durable assemblies. The use of low permeance materials, insulation strategies, drainage systems, ventilation gaps, cladding attachments and the selection of curtain-wall components to enhance thermal performance are addressed.

2015 BCBEC CONFERENCE & AGM

BCBEC's one-day symposium examined how fundamentals in the building envelope industry are put into practice. Industry professionals explored new and existing technologies, the legislated Building Act and case studies from a range of areas, including building energy requirements, below grade construction, spray foam insulation and the living building challenge.

Presented by the British Columbia Building Envelope Council (BCBEC) and the Homeowner Protection Office (HPO), a branch of BC Housing.

This half-day workshop focused on energy efficiency in new and retrofit buildings. Industry leaders provided insights into key issues, including insulation strategies, high performance walls and energy-efficiency code requirements. The workshop also examined some of the challenges and options being explored in multi-unit residential and institutional buildings.

BCBEC GIVE AWARD TO BCIT BUILDING SCIENCE GRADUATE STUDENT

BCBEC is proud to present the Tom Morstead Memorial Award to BCIT Building Science Graduate student Shahrzad Pedram at the Scholarships and Awards Ceremony held on November 14. Shahrzad, a student in the Master of Applied Science in Building Science program, received the award for her high academic standing, leadership, service and best all-round performance in building science.

BCBEC supports educational programs which provide learning opportunities for students in the field of building science.

HALF-DAY WORKSHOP ON WINDOW INSTALLATION SUCCESS

It's been another excellent partnership under the banner of the Building Smart series of seminars. A half-day workshop on window installation presented jointly by the Homeowner Protection Office (HPO) and the BC Building Envelope Council (BCBEC) in January 2012 is now available as an online webinar. The workshop attracted more than 250 industry professionals from across B.C. as well as participants from as far away as Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and parts of the US.

NEW HPO BUILDER INSIGHT BULLETIN

Builder Insight #9: Fenestration Energy Performance: A Roadmap for Understanding Requirements for Residential Buildings in British Columbia is now available. The Homeowner Protection Office, a branch of BC Housing, has released a new technical bulletin that looks at the energy performance requirements for windows, glazed doors and skylights used in residential buildings, and provides a roadmap for compliance. Energy performance requirements for fenestration have become more stringent in recent years. This bulletin will help clarify the building code and BC Energy Efficiency Act requirements and the supporting standards.

BCBEC SUPPORTS BCIT STUDENT SCIENCE PROJECTS

BCBEC is proud to support BCIT's 2011 Building Science Project competition. First place in the competition went to "Thermal Breaks Reduce Heat Loss Through Externally Insulated Walls" (Michael L'Arrivee, Joshua Wiebe, Benjamin Plasche). Second place to "Thermal Bridging in Concrete Floor Slabs" (Nataliya Matiushkova). Third place to "The Energy Efficiency of Single Family Homes" (Trevor Vilac, Brandon Carreira, Logan Brown).

BCBEC supports educational programs which provide learning opportunities for students in the field of building science.
